The estate
A living agricultural estate set on clay-limestone slopes facing Duras.
In Savignac-de-Duras, in Lot-et-Garonne, Le Voisin Estate unfolds across a hillside overlooking the Duras valleys, on the edge of Dordogne, Périgord and Aquitaine. The farm and some of its buildings date back to the 17th century. They were once an outbuilding of the Château des Ducs de Duras.
Today, the site brings together 17 hectares of vineyards and 19 hectares of orchards. The plots lie on clay-limestone soils, gravel and sand. The vines are farmed organically, with QUALISUD certification, no herbicides and organic inputs.
ORTIS evokes rural estates and this countryside where human presence learns to work with nature to provide livelihood, safety, well-being and joy of living: a regained paradise between earth and sky.
A meeting point between human work and nature, sometimes demanding, sometimes transcendent, the garden has been celebrated from Homer to Egyptian and biblical gardens, then reinterpreted during the Renaissance as a place of pleasure and contemplation.
The ORTIS estate fits naturally into the landscape. It uses the slope to open perspectives, faces the countryside and watches over air and water quality for the well-being of its inhabitants.
